Held annually from August 2nd to 7th, the Aomori Nebuta Festival is one of the most famous festivals in Japan, and is also a symbol of the Tohoku region. A parade is held in Aomori City, with fascinating parade floats called “Ningyo Nebuta”.
Oirase-keiryu is a stream that flows from Lake Towada and is fourteen kilometers in length. It is surrounded by lush trees and has several locations with waterfalls and other interesting rocks along the stream. You can enjoy the beauty of nature there.
Hirosaki Castle is beautiful all year long. The castle is very famous for scenic views of Japanese cherry blossoms in spring, foliage in autumn, and the Lantern Festival in winter. No matter when you go to Hirosaki Castle, all seasons can be enjoyed there.

Koiwai Farm is a farm that raises their cattle and sheep with love and care. It has a long history and is surrounded by beautiful nature. There are many attractions at the farm, such as horseback riding and carriage rides.
Spreading across both Iwate and Akita Prefecture, you can enjoy trekking activities while searching for many different kinds of mountain plants. Other activities like going to hot springs are also available at Hachimantai, where you can feel the greatness of nature.
Joudogahama Beach is a beautiful location with the blue sea, white rocks, and deep green pine trees creating a magnificent contrast. Sanriku Fukko National Park is located there as well, adding another beautiful attraction to the area.
One of the most famous hot springs in the Iwate area, Hanamaki Onsen is located in an area surrounded by nature. Containing four ryokan hotels, as well as a rose garden and café, there are many things to do in Hanamaki Onsen.

Hiraizumi Chusonji Temple is a buddhist temple located inside of a World Heritage Site. You are sure to marvel at the beautiful golden decorations inside and outside of the temple. This temple is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the Iwate area.
You can enjoy riding a boat along the river of Geibi Gorge assisted with a tour guide. You will surely enjoy gazing upon the towering rock walls and lush trees.
Inside Tono Denshoen are displays of Tono region’s farmhouses and culture. You can experience traditional events and making your own folk crafts.
The Sendai Tanabata Festival is held every year from August 6th to 8th. Sendai City and surrounding areas will become very colorful with Tanabata decorations.

Known as one of the “Three Great Views of Japan”, Matsushima is located in Miyagi Prefecture in the Matsushima Bay. With 260 islands floating on the horizon, this naturally made scenery is one of the most beautiful in Japan.
Izunuma Lake is the largest lowland lake in the Tohoku region, and is famous for lotus flowers. You can ride a small sightseeing boat on the lake and see the lotus flowers blooming right before your eyes.
Naruko Onsen is made up of 5 different hot spring areas and is located in the center of the Tohoku region. One of the characteristics of Naruko Onsen is that there are 9 types of hot spring quality, and you can enjoy them all through an activity known as “Hot Spring Hopping”!
Michinoku Park is the only national government managed park and is surrounded by water and lush green nature. The “Furusato Village” is also highly recommended. The village is a collection of all six Tohoku prefectures traditional Japanese houses called “Kominka”.
Zao Okama is a magnificent emerald-green colored crater lake. The bright emerald green colored water and the rough rocky ledges creates a truly beautiful contrast.
Akiu Hot Spring is considered one of the “Three Best Hot Springs in Japan”. The hot spring is also known as the “Goryo Hot Spring” of the Japanese Royal Family. Access to Akiu Hot Spring is convenient, located about thirty minutes from Sendai.

Rinno-ji Temple is a beautiful temple holding one of the most gorgeous Japanese gardens in the Tohoku area. Every season brings a new look to the garden, and the three storied pagoda makes the temple have beautiful and harmonious scenery to enjoy.

“Namahage” is the Japanese name that is given to ogres in Akita prefecture. In the museum there are displays of Namahage masks and costumes that were used in the Oga area during traditional events and festivals. There are also videos of the customs and traditions that have been passed down from generation to generation in the area.
The Akita dog is a kind of natural monument. The triangular shaped ears, large body, and friendly personality are their special characteristics. You can see real Akita Dogs, and inside the facility there is the statue of the loyal Hachiko dog.

Kosakamachi Kourakukan is a wooden theatre made with a combination of Japanese and Western design influences. The structure includes a pier, two stage passages called “flower ways”, and a revolving stage, preserving the designs of the Edo period. Currently there are still Kabuki performances held at the theatre.
Goshokake Hot Spring is located in Hachimantai, which is surrounded by beautiful nature and has a long history of being a high-quality hot spring. You can enjoy seven different types of hot spring, such as “Box-Steamed Hot Spring”, where you sit in a wooden box with the hot spring water coming up all the way to your neck.
Regarded as one of the festivals that represent the Tohoku region, it is the greatest summer event in Akita. Lanterns that are arranged into the shape of a stalk of rice are lifted up by participants. A total of about 260 lanterns are lifted up into the night sky, creating a truly beautiful scene.
Kakunodate is known as “Michinoku Shokyoto”, meaning little Kyoto. The reason is because Kakunodate has beautifully preserved historical Samurai houses. You can enjoy Kakunodate during any season.

Nyuto Hot Spring Village is a little-known secluded hot spring village. Located at the foot of Nyuto Mountain and made up of seven hot spring areas, it is the perfect place to go “hot spring hopping” to experience the different types of hot springs.

The Omagari Fireworks Festival boasts the best traditions and fireworks craftsmanship in Japan. The location of the venue is on the bank of a river, with mountains in the background of the fireworks, making it the perfect place to have a fireworks festival. Music and lightshows are added to make the fireworks even more festive!
At the Kamo Aquarium, the exhibits of up to 50 different species of jellyfish is a definite must-see! Other than jellyfish, there are many other unique organisms for you to discover.
Somaro is a facility that houses a renewed famous restaurant that has been opened for over 200 years. You can enjoy antique art while sipping tea, as well as watching a “Maimusume” dance performance while having a meal.
While travelling downstream on the Mogami River, the view on both left and right are stunning, with breathtaking mountains. Each season is beautiful to visit Mogami River.
This wooden five-storied pagoda is approximately 29 meters in height and is designated as a nation treasure. Nearby there are enormous cedar trees that are said to be over 1000 years old, which you are sure to be in awe at one glance.
During the Yamagata Hanakasa Festival, colorfully decorated floats with dancers following the float will parade around Yamagata city center. Dancers will be carrying umbrellas that are colorfully decorated with flowers as well as wearing colorful costumes, making it a great summer festival!

Risshaku Temple has a long history of over one thousand one hundred years. The temple has a sacred atmosphere, and is beautiful especially during autumn season, where the surrounding forest and mountains turn into beautiful bright colors!

“Waraji” is the term used for Japanese traditional straw sandals. During the Waraji Festival, the largest “Waraji” in Japan is carried around Fukushima City. This festival is one of the top summer festivals in Fukushima.
Fukushima Prefecture is famously known as “The Kingdom of Fruits”. Each season there are different fruits available for you to taste. You can taste especially delicious fruit that is the perfect amount of ripeness when you go fruit picking.
Soma Nomaoi is a festival where warriors dressed in samurai armor, holding a katana sword, and have a flag attached to their backs ride on horseback. The festival is such magnificent, energetic event.

Spa Resort Hawaiians is a hot spring theme park made up of six theme parks and four hotels. You can enjoy summer all year round in this indoor facility. Attractions such as pools, hot springs, and Hula girl performances are very popular.
Gishikinuma is located north of Mount Bandai, the symbol of Fukushima. It is made up of several ponds, and each pond is colored differently. Colors range from hues of blue, green, and many more. It is a very popular spot for beautiful scenery.
