Akita City is the prefectural capital of Akita Prefecture, located at the center of Akita Prefecture. Akita is well-known nationwide for their rice-growing fields, and this rice is used to make delicious Japanese sake, which is also famous. Akita Kanto Festival is a festival for rice-growing areas, to offer prayers for a rich harvest of the five staple grains, and as one of the festivals representing the Tohoku region, it is crowded with many visitors.

The festival, which conveys the wishes for a good harvest, features 46 lanterns that are attached to a long bamboo pole, arranged in a manner to resemble the ears of the rice plant The "Kanto" poles are 12 meters high and weighs 50 kg. The exquisite technique using palms, forehead, shoulders and waistto support the structure is surely a highlight.
