Odate City is the origin of the Akita Dog, and there are facilities where you can meet real Akita dogs. Akita’s traditional dish, “Kiritanpo”, is also originates from Odate City. It is a dish you should definitely try. “Odate Magewappa”, a traditional craft made from Akita cedar trees, is a famous souvenir of Odate.

Kiritanpo is a dish that is made by squishing cooked rice and shaping it into a stick and grilled. It is served with chicken soup containing onions, mushrooms, burdock root and parsley. It is one of Akita Prefecture’s famous soup dishes.

Railways that were previously used for transporting goods are now transformed for railbikes to use. You can enjoy the beautiful nature such as cherry blossoms and green leaves, as well as experience the thrill of crossing a river by bridge on the railbike.
About a 20-minute bus ride from JR Odate Station with the Shuhoku Bus to Kosaka. Located right in front of the bus stop "Seifuso".
The Akita dog is a kind of natural monument. The triangular shaped ears, large body, and friendly personality are their special characteristics. You can see real Akita Dogs, and inside the facility there is the statue of the loyal Hachiko dog.
